The TCC Global Learning Committee, chaired by TCC Spanish Professor Gabriela Toletti, sponsored the event. The committee values global learning as an essential element of education that prepares students for the realities of a culturally diverse, technologically engaged, economically interdependent and ecologically vulnerable world.

“We were honored to have a keynote speaker whose experience and expertise highlight this global vision,” Toletti said.

The film La Yuma is the story of a strong-willed, rebellious girl from the poor neighborhoods of Managua who dreams of becoming a boxer. Toletti and Tim Konhaus, professor of history and humanities, led a discussion afterward at the Advanced Technology Center on the Virginia Beach Campus.
